SF Directors

Mimi Xu

President, SF Chapter
As an immigrant and a woman of color, I want to have some impact in the fight for social justice in the United States.

I find leadership inspiration from…
I’m inspired by people that leverage their intellect and talent to help those with less privilege. Having the hard and soft skills for effective leading is important, but more compelling to me is what someone chooses to do with it. There are a lot of individuals and alumni from Project by Project with these qualities, which is one of the reasons I’ve grown in this space.
For people that are more widely known, Helen Zia is someone in the API world that inspires me to be an active community member. Amal Clooney and Michelle Obama resonate with me for their model of strong, non-traditional leadership.

If I wasn’t in my current profession, I’d be…
In a creative field! Anything from character design, event design, or creative direction at a marketing agency.

One of my favorite places to travel is…
That’s a hard question! In Japan, there’s no such thing as a mediocre meal, even if it was from 7-Eleven. But for me, Costa Rica really sticks out because they do tourism in a way that highlights their value of being responsible global citizens.

My last meal on Earth would be…
Maybe a meal made by someone that I love that we’ve always eaten together. That’s really sad!

Christine Juang

Volunteer Management
Get to Know Christine!
The Director of Volunteer Management, woot!

Chicken pho from Turtle Tower and double fold vanilla ice cream from Salt & Straw.

Anthony Basilio

I hope to continue to work on iconic projects while learning as much as I can and relaying that to my peers in the API community. I've had the opportunity to work on exciting entertainment properties like Star Wars and Plants vs Zombies.

I find leadership inspiration from…
In my current company, I’ve been lucky enough to work closely with a variety of Asian-American and other minority leaders and learn first-hand from their experiences. Besides that, my grandfather, who left the Philippines for Guam with no prior experience living there, and successfully established the first renal clinic on the island.

If I wasn’t in my current profession, I’d be…

I'm continually working on stepping outside of my comfort zone. I feel like I use to live under a rock and found that it's more rewarding when you get outside your head, try new things and take some risks.

I find leadership inspiration from…
I know it’s cliche, but I find leadership inspiration from everyone around me. I believe you can always learn something from anyone if you take the time to get to know them.

If I wasn’t in my current profession, I’d be…
A job that would require me to eat for a living 🙂

Favorite place to travel?
I’ve been to a lot of great places, but one of them would have to be Thailand. I love the warm weather and the food is delicious! Especially the noodles. I also love Costa Rica and their “Pura Vida” way of living.

Last meal on Earth?
That a super tough one. I’m so indecisive when it comes to food! I would want to do a tasting menu so I can eat a little bit of everything. It would have some sort of seafood, steak, noodles, fries, great bold flavors and ends with a ton of dessert including cake and ice cream.
