Last week, Project by Project (PbP) Los Angeles held a kickoff mixer to announce Organization of Chinese Americans – Greater Los Angeles (OCA-GLA) – Asian Pacific American Advocates as the beneficiary partner for 2018. In support of this year’s theme focused around Asian Americans and Immigration, PbP-LA and OCA-GLA are raising funds for the Mentored Path to Citizenship Grant, a program for immigrants in need of financial assistance, application guidance, and legal support throughout the citizenship process.
Our President Eileen Ung and OCA-GLA’s Vice President Steven Chow each shared their excitement about the partnership leaving us with a poignant reminder that we all are impacted by immigration. Their call to action set the tone for the year as buzz filled up the walls at Mama Lion. The support shown at the event was astounding despite the rain. Our friends at Asian Professionals Exchange (APEX) also joined the fun, enjoying and mingling at the kickoff. Aside from the mention of the superb food and cocktails (the lavender gin was particularly sublime) the highlight of the night was seeing the collective human soul coming together to strive for a common goal.
In addition to the beneficiary partner announcement, PbP-LA also revealed its non-profit consulting initiative Collaborations Accelerating Sustainable Engagement and Solutions (CASES) initiative. CASES help AAPI community-based non-profits build capacity and accelerate impact through skills-based volunteering while simultaneously developing the leadership competencies of the next generation of leaders through service learning.
The night invigorated PbP’s belief in its core mission and is a sign of things to come!
LA Chapter Retreat 2018
In early March, Project by Project Los Angeles held its annual retreat. This year, 40+ new and returning members participated in a weekend of packed activities to learn and welcome each other as fellow teammates.
Members learned about PbP’s history, mission, values and “what it means to be a PbP ambassador” through interactive presentations with live polls. “Business Model Canvas” and group discussions were used to help members understand PbP as an organization and its value propositions. Bonding activities included icebreakers, Big Five Personality Traits assessment, charades showdown, and cooking together to provide delicious meals. As always the retreat is an important event at the start of the year and we are proud to say that this year’s retreat was one of the best!
