Private Guided Tour with Project by Project LA
Roots: Asian American Movements in Los Angeles 1968-80s Recap

In honor of AAPI heritage month last May, Project by Project LA had the pleasure of directing a private, guided tour for the Roots: Asian American Movements in Los Angeles 1969-80s exhibit with the Chinese American Museum curator Steve Wong. The focus of the event centered around the extensive and often under-appreciated struggles of the brave activists in our community, and our group completed the educational journey with a strengthened sense of understanding for the civil opportunities forged by our forebears in the AAPI community.

Members of PbP LA and guests gratefully walked through the exhibit to learn about how civil activism has shaped Asian American history in Los Angeles and about the enormous task of facing the challenges still ahead in our path towards civil and political empowerment. We want to thank everyone in attendance for their support, and we hope it has inspired you to courageously spread more vibrant awareness for the APIA community.

Volunteers of the Month: June

PbP-LA is proud to announce that due to the outstanding accomplishments of our members, this month of June, we will be spotlighting TWO Volunteers of the Month (VOM)!

Our first VOM is Winnie Fong, from our Outreach Team.

Winnie is a first year member of PbP, but has already played an active role in contributing and spreading the word about the organization. Her most recent outreach efforts at a Yelp Elite Event led to a win with a beverage vendor. Her positive attitude, passion for volunteering, and continuous drive to better herself and the organization makes her a volunteer of the month!

Winnie finds that PbP’s model of innovative philanthropy as a unique concept to support local organizations and their cause while developing its members as future community leaders. “PbP does a great job in introducing those who want to be more connected with API leaders, movers and shakers, and local organizations. If this is what you are seeking as part of your professional development, PbP is a good place to start.”

Congratulations Winnie!

Volunteers of the Month: June

Our second VOM goes out to Jenelle Yee, from our Fundraising Team.

Jenelle, a first year member of PbP, has proven herself to be a responsive and supportive team member, as well as being extremely proactive in securing donations and leading various leadership initiatives, something that would be expected from a more veteran member! To name a few accomplishments, she has been able to secure all of the museum and amusement park donations, and is also leading the organization’s video project and survey project!

When asked how PbP has helped her in her professional development, she states, “PbP has encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone. Through committee work, I have been able to practice and further develop a variety of skills that will help in my career and other aspects of my life. After having been a part of PbP’s Fundraising Team, I have practiced and gained exposure to skills like collaboration, strategic planning, and project management.”

Congratulations Jenelle!
