Thank you to everyone who participated in our inaugural Project LEAD Hackathon! 80+ professionals gathered on Saturday, October 24th for a day of learning, strategy brainstorming, friendly competition and cross-industry collaboration at General Assembly in Downtown Los Angeles. The event featured 3 speakers, 4 judges, and 6 strategy advisors with 8 local non-profits including AAPI Data, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles, South Asian Network, L.A. Chinatown Firecracker Run Committee, Asian Pacific Islander Small Business Program, and Thai CDC.
Teams worked diligently with their respective nonprofits during a strategy brainstorming session and concluded with a solutions pitch in front of a panel of judges. In the end, the volunteer consultant team for Changing Tides program at the Little Tokyo Service Center working on API community’s mental health awareness campaign won the hackathon with their clear delivery and comprehensive unique solution.
Project LEAD is an expansion on PbP's nonprofit consulting initiative Project CASES. CASES most recently partnered with Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA on an extended engagement conducting research and financial modeling supporting workers' rights litigation in the California nail salon industry. The CASES team presented their findings at Project LEAD to give attendees a sneak preview of our 12-week pro-bono program.
As Project by Project wraps up our year-long beneficiary partnership with our community partner in 2018, our volunteer team is grateful for the incredible impact from our two project initiatives newly introduced this year: Project CASES and Project Lead. PbP-LA welcomes our community and prospective members to attend our second panel of guest speakers addressing important topics p up our 2018 Immigration Campaign with a panel of guest speakers addressing important topics such as workers' rights, deportation, and family separation.
