We’re excited to honor our exceptionally talented Silent Auctions team this month. All in their rookie year, Jesse, Chris, and Eric have shown tremendous effort and quickly proved to be true assets to the organization. Faced with limited resources initially, Jesse and Chris were not only diligent but also creative in their approach. Their combined efforts resulted in impressive donations to this year’s silent auction. As the manager of the team, Eric was an intricate part to the success thus far. Eric’s responsiveness and leadership skills are only some of the abilities he displayed. Not only did he manage multiple projects but also helped to develop a framework for future teams. This month, we celebrate Jesse, Chris, and Eric’s success and leadership while encouraging continuing efforts leading up to September's tasting event.
From his very first day at PbP, Justin has shown exemplary drive and initiative. In his rookie year, he stepped up to his role as the Manager of Restaurant Relations. With the support of his team of five, he has reached out to hundreds of vendors. They have confirmed event participation of many restaurant vendors including crowd favorites from years past. The team has also confirmed silent auction donations that are major contributors to the fundraising efforts during PbP's 20th anniversary year. This month, we celebrate Justin's success and leadership while continuing efforts leading up to September's tasting event.
Please join me in congratulating Phil for winning the April Volunteer of the Month award. Phil has shown outstanding initiative since the PbP Info Night in February. He has made reservations for the Events team meetup sessions, arranged the 04/19 brewery tour, and has confirmed four beverage vendors for ATB. His strong network in the beverage industry leaves no doubt that we will have a strong and well-diversified array of beverage vendors at ATB. Keep up the good work, Phil.

What do we do? Project by Project (PbP) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in New York City in 1998 by a group of young Asian American professionals. Comprised of a team with backgrounds across finance, consulting, technology, media, entertainment and law, PbP’s founding team felt it could do more to empower the Asian American community. They created an innovative platform by which our members exercise leadership skills through direct service volunteer work, increasing awareness and fundraising for fellow organizations within the Asian American community.

Project by Project SF's latest Volunteer of the Month recognizes an individual who goes above and beyond the ask and with enthusiasm. Please join us in congratulating Rochelle Truong!
Rochelle has been invaluable to the Marketing team as the Manager of Design Production and to PbP as a whole. Given little direction, Rochelle has created beautiful and creative designs that we are proud to use and leverage. We are always pleasantly surprised and delighted at what Rochelle has brought to the table, and appreciate her dedication to delivering her best work. In such a short time, Rochelle has proven to be a trustworthy team member and an invaluable asset to the team. We couldn't have done what we have without her, and we are incredibly lucky to have you as part of the team!
Project by Project SF’s latest Volunteer of the Month recognize an individual who exemplifies great work ethic and taking ownership of projects thrown his way. Please join us in congratulating Lucas Yee!
As our Events Production Manager, Lucas hit the floor running and quickly took responsibility for his role. He’s able to work with vague concepts and proactively brings ideas to fruition. His passion is obvious – he asks big questions about how the organization works as a unit and has generously offered his apartment as a staging area. With fresh eyes and an uninhibited tendency to throw ideas out, he’s been a vital contributor to Project by Project. He’s secured our ticket sales platform, sold the most tickets of any first year member, and has been our venue’s go-to guy.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Plate by Plate would not have come together without him. Please join us in thanking Lucas!
Derek has been a huge asset to PbP since joining this year. As the only Operations team member, he's been holding it down on all fronts. From website updates to setting up our ticket sales platform, Derek is always resourceful and willing to own activities. He has gone above and beyond by exploring opportunities to improve our existing processes, such as using Salesforce.com for our records. He's also been a tremendous help to other teams-- for example, he dropped everything to help the Events team with check-in during our last happy hour. Finally, Derek went out of his way to travel to LA to help with our sister chapter's Plate by Plate event and gain experience in preparation for our event. Derek is always looking to lend a helping hand and we are so lucky to have him as a PbP team member!
Project by Project SF’s latest Volunteer of the Month recognizes an individual who reaches beyond the responsibilities of his role and proactively finds opportunities for our team. Please join us in congratulating Dean Wang! It's only his first year with PbP but Dean quickly and deeply grasped the needs of our organization. He helped fill key roles in our nonprofit and connected us with a winery that will be featured in our silent auction this year. He independently kept a pulse on this year's venue and notified us when they had an NBA Finals viewing party. In addition to being a lot of fun, it allowed the planning team to see the venue in full swing.
From questions during meetings to providing insight on how to further leverage our social media platforms, his perceptiveness has been a welcomed asset. Dean is an excellent communicator and great at keeping the team in sync as he negotiates happy hour details, partner sponsorships, and more. In a few short months, Dean has shown that he is a motivated, trustworthy collaborator and we couldn't be more excited to work together this year!
Project by Project SF's latest Volunteer of the Month recognizes an individual who has shown true dedication and passion for our organization.
Project by Project (PbP) is devastated by today's news and stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ community in mourning the loss of lives and condemning the senseless violence in Orlando, or anywhere in the world. In focusing this year on raising awareness of the challenges still facing the LGBTQ community, PbP stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the victims and their families to call for peace and compassion in the aftermath of what was an act of both terror and hate. #PbPloves
Each year the local chapters of Project by Project (Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York) come together to address the needs of the API community by selecting a theme to champion. Each chapter partners with a local non-profit organization that focuses on the issues of the annual theme and tailors a year-long campaign to support its fundraising, community outreach, and public awareness efforts. This year, we are focusing on the needs of the LGBTQ API community. We are proud and excited to announce that we are partnering with API Equality Northern California (APIENC)! Founded in 2004, APIENC aims to build LGBTQ API power to amplify voices and increase visibility of their communities. Through organizing, they inspire and train leaders, establish intergenerational connections, and document and disseminate their histories.
This year, PbP SF will work with APIENC to develop effective strategies to enhance its capacity to better serve the LGBTQ API community.
To learn more about APIENC, please visit their website: http://www.apiequalitync.org/
Project by Project SF would like to invite you and your friends to join us on a spirits tour at St. George’s! For those who attended Plate by Plate last year, you may remember the delicious tastings offered by St. George Spirits. If you missed out, now’s your chance to join us as we support our past vendor at their local, independent craft distillery for a tasting tour. This is an extraordinary way to learn about craft distillation and artisanal spirits. The whole experience will give you the chance to see how spirits are made and understand exactly what goes into crafting what’s in your glass. Tours provide an overview of the production area, with the chance to view the stills, fermentation tanks, barrel storage, and bottling line. Tours conclude in the tasting room with a guided tasting designed to help you learn how to approach and appreciate spirits. Each tasting includes a selection of six of their spirits—all made onsite!
All tours and tastings are 21 and over. Valid ID is required for entry.
DATE: Saturday, May 21, 2016 TIME: 11:30am-3:40pm (tour 1-2pm) PRICE: $20/person (cash or card)

Project by Project SF’s latest Volunteer of the Month recognizes an individual who exceeds expectations and brings a creative flair to the team. Please join us in congratulating Mimi Xu! In her first year with PbP, Mimi has been a great asset to the events team. She acts quickly and fully takes ownership for any task that is given to her-- finding happy hour locations, researching party rentals, helping to plan our annual winery tour, and many more. Mimi is great about keeping her director informed on her progress and summarizing her findings so that it's easy to make a decision. Recently, Mimi went above and beyond by representing PbP at KSW's Dumpling Wars event. Mimi and team worked 15 hours over two days shopping, caramelizing onions, prepping the filling, wrapping dumplings, and then cooking and serving 400 dumplings to hungry guests at the event (all of this after running the half marathon!). Mimi was a significant contributor to our team winning the audience choice award, as she came up with the creative, delicious recipe that everyone loved (french onion soup dumplings... mmm...).
Thanks for everything, Mimi! We're so lucky to have you in our family!

Project by Project SF had a blast this past weekend making dumplings at the fun and successful "Dumpling Wars 3: Game of Noms" event, hosted by Kearny Street Workshop! A big congrats to House PbP on winning the People's Choice Award with those delicious Onion Knight (French onion soup) Dumplings!! Surely that's a recipe and tale worthy of posterity.
