2023 Campaign: Education Access

Project by Project Los Angeles (PbP-LA) kicks off the year with class as we embark on our 2023 campaign on Education Access. What does education access mean for Asian Americans? Much of the discussion surrounding education policy overlooks the diversity within our AAPI community with needs that apply to students, adult learners and educators alike. However, a key barrier to discussing the specific needs of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities is the common practice of combining the groups without addressing or identifying their differences. Without better communication of our communities’ educational needs, we will not be able to effectively articulate change for our AAPI students and educators.

The theme of Education Access will explore a wide array of issues aimed at:

  1. Asian American Representation in Academia

  2. English Language Proficiency

  3. Student Loans & Financial Literacy

  4. Vocational Careers and apprenticeship

  5. Affirmative Action

  6. Racial Equity Lens of K-12 Education Policy

  7. Mental Health of Asian American Students

PbP-LA will be engaging with these topics through workshops and partnerships. We are excited to go on this journey and understand issues within education, how they affect our Asian American communities, and how PbP-LA can help address them through our pro bono consulting work, volunteerism, and advocacy with our local beneficiary partner—HOPE Community Services. Stay tuned for more content throughout the year. 📚

Founded in 1995, this non-profit organization located in Orange County has been instrumental in supporting the Vietnamese community by delivering educational programs, including youth summer camps, after-school tutoring, and senior English Second Language classes. PbP-LA looks forward to contributing to HOPE’s mission as they build pathways so that Vietnamese Americans can not only survive but thrive in our beautiful nation.
