Meet Project by Project NY’s 2022 Directors!

2022 is a huge milestone for Project by Project as we reach our 25th anniversary! The team will be celebrating by bringing inspiring events, helpful resources, and valuable support to the Asian American community.

Let us introduce you to our Directors! We asked them why they chose to return for another year and what they are most excited about for 2022!

Dow Kim

President

Joining PbP was a great way to meet and work with amazing like-minded individuals who want to give back to the community.

I decided to return to PbP for my third year with the organization to continue serving the community and to build leadership skills.

This year, I’m most excited about celebrating PbP’s 25th year anniversary and the return of Plate by Plate.

Ed Chow

Operations

I decided to return to PbP because of the wonderful and amazing people that I get to volunteer with!

Giving back to the community was the initial reason I joined a few years ago and it still remains the same today.

I am most excited about the return of our Plate by Plate annual tasting benefit! It’s been a different event the past few years and I hope this year we get to highlight many restaurants that have been impacted by the pandemic.

Sharron Chu

Events

The members here are really fantastic. There aren’t many opportunities where you can sit in a meeting with a large group of people, speak and feel heard. Everyone has something to offer and that is emphasized at PbP. That type of respect and community feeling is what keeps me, and I’m sure many of our members, coming back.

I am excited to have a blow-out Plate by Plate. It’s the first time since the pandemic where we are bringing back our signature annual tasting benefit. This is also PbP’s 25th anniversary. Being that PbP started in NYC, we are looking to make this year’s event special.

Kelvin Ma

Fundraising

I joined PbP back in 2020 and the thing that made me keep coming back was the people. I loved the feeling of community and I really loved how passionate everyone was about serving their communities. I saw how hard-working everyone was while planning for our boat party last year and I really wanted to step up this year and give back.

I’m excited to finally have a normal year! I felt like 2020 was a wash and part of 2021 was virtual, so I’m eager to see how things are done in 2022. I already know our Plate by Plate this year will be amazing, so I’m counting down the days!

Jeany Zhao

Outreach

Personally, one year felt too short for me to make any significant “impact”, especially on Outreach where the possibilities of working with community partners are simply endless!

When 2021 ended, I knew there was definitely more that could be achieved for PbP’s upcoming 25th Anniversary. I’m stoked that we can finally take time to reflect on what truly matters to us so we can fuel ourselves to serve the greater NYC AAPI community.

It’s always nice to work with some old and new faces - rekindling past relationships, establishing new partnerships, and continuously growing our PbP family!

Shuana Yap

Marketing

Being part of the Marketing team in 2021, I not only enjoyed my role in PbP but also building great relationships with the members. I decided to return to take on a more impactful role and to be more creative to support the greater team and organization. We have been utilizing social media to share what the various teams are doing for the AAPI community and building better relationships with other organizations, and I'd like to continue doing that with my team.

2022 is an exciting year for us as it is PbP's 25th anniversary! I want to continue supporting all events organized by the teams, creating quality content to reach out to as many people as possible and of course, I am looking forward to our biggest event, the Plate by Plate!

Jason Chen

Team and Leadership

2021 was my first year being part of PbP and, in the best possible way, it was more than I bargained for. I joined with the intention of having more volunteering opportunities with like minded people but quickly realized I would get my chance to give back to the community but also expand my network and create strong relationships with the other members of the chapter.

I wanted to return and also take on a Director role so that I could have more impact and also challenge myself with more responsibilities. This year, I am most looking forward to the return of the traditional Plate by Plate format, which is what originally drew me into the organization.

Nancy Wong

Team and Leadership

I joined PbP at the end of 2020 and it was the amazing group of people who motivated me to return for another year. Being part of the Steering Committee is also a great way to further develop leadership and communication skills. I wanted to continue to make an impact on the AAPI community with all the recent unfortunate events in New York and what better way to do that than with a group of driven individuals who know how to both work hard and party hard.

This year I'm excited to work with the new committee members and collectively organize AAPI events that help the community and a sell-out Plate by Plate later this year for PbP's 25th year anniversary.

Amy Wong

Finance

It's the people and the work PbP does that keep motivating me to come back. I’ve also met so many wonderful people that I wouldn't otherwise meet, and I learned so many different skills through my roles as Fundraising Director (2019) and Operation Director (2020-2021), which I’ve applied to my work and personal life.

As each year passes, PbP gives more and more back to the community. I can’t wait to see what our 25th year will bring!

We're so excited to have a group of passionate directors who are enthusiastic about our future! It will certainly be a fun and unforgettable year for PbP NY!
