PAST PROJECT BY PROJECT THEMES
2023 THEME: EDUCATION/EDUCATION ACCESS
Note: For those that may not be as familiar with our organization, Project by Project (PbP) chooses an annual campaign theme as a focus for our local chapters to learn more about pertinent social causes and how they affect Asian American communities. Each of our chapters in LA, NY, and SF then takes their learnings to create actionable plans and funds to address these issues with a nonprofit beneficiary partner.
This year, Project by Project will be focusing on the theme of education and education access. What does education access mean for Asian Americans? Much of the discussion surrounding education policy overlooks the diversity within our AAPI community with needs that apply to students, adult learners and educators alike. However, a key barrier to discussing the specific needs of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities is the common practice of combining the groups without addressing or identifying their differences. Without better communication of our communities’ educational needs, we will not be able to effectively articulate change for our AAPI students and educators.
The theme of “Education Access” will explore a wide array of issues aimed at:
Student Loans & Financial Literacy
Vocational careers and apprenticeship
Affirmative Action
Racial Equity Lens of K-12 Education Policy
English Language Learners and access for immigrant/refugee students
Mental Health of Asian American and Pacific Islander students
Education Access for Students with Disabilities
We are excited to go on this journey and understand issues within education/education access, how they affect our AAPI communities, and how Project by Project can help address them through our pro bono consulting work, volunteerism, and advocacy with local beneficiary partners. We are indebted to one of our biggest cohorts of nearly 200 dedicated volunteers this year. As we continue our efforts throughout the year, here are a few ways you can get involved:

Announcing PbP’s 2021 Campaign: Asian Americans & The Environment
Looking back on Project by Project’s work in 2020, one word that comes to mind is resilience. Amidst a global pandemic, separation from loved ones, and xenophobia towards Asian American, Black, and other communities of color, our volunteers and Board continued to innovate how we serve our communities. We not only implemented marketing, human capital and fundraising strategies on behalf of our nonprofit beneficiaries, but established a restaurant relief fund, created Asian-language voter guides, pivoted to virtual events in service of Civic & Political Empowerment, and much more. We hope to carry this spirit of resilience with us as we enter 2021 with a sense of optimism and renewal, and begin our next campaign: Asian Americans & The Environment.
The theme of “Asian Americans and the Environment” will explore a wide array of issues aimed at helping restore the planet we share, and allow our chapters to dive deep into specific areas such as:
Sustainability
Climate change initiatives
Environmental justice
Community resiliency plans in natural disaster recovery
Drought and water quality in marginalized communities
We are excited to start this journey and understand current environmental issues, how they affect Asian American communities, and how Project by Project can help address them.
None of this work is achievable without our dedicated organization of volunteers and its supporters. As we kick off our efforts around Asian Americans & The Environment, we invite you to take one or more of the following steps:
