Our Collective Grief is Our Resistance: Rallying Against AAPI Hate

Project-by-Project-Los-Angeles-Vigil1

On Saturday, March 27, 2021 countless rallies and vigils were held across the country calling for an end to racialized violence against Asian Americans, especially women and elders. Project by Project LA co-sponsored a candlelit vigil with our past beneficiary partner, the Pilipino Workers Center (PWC). The event, which took place in Los Angeles Chinatown, aimed to lift up the victims of the Atlanta massacre, as well as the attacks on elders in Northern California and other hate crimes that have happened locally in LA.

We were glad to be joined in solidarity by speakers such as:

Other local organizations joining PbP and PWC at the event included:

We would also like to thank Rick Eng of the County’s LA vs. Hate campaign for supplying us with signs to encourage and support all LA residents to  report, resist and unite against hate. You can view the recording of the vigil event here.

PbP LA also co-sponsored a memorial service for victims of Asian hate crimes with PwC on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Liberty Park in Koreatown. We hosted various speakers from nonprofits and the faith-based community, a music performance, and a prayer tree ceremony where guests expressed their grief by tying cloth fabric to 6 trees honoring the AAPI women murdered in Atlanta. You can view the video of the memorial here.
