PbP-LA March 2018 Press Release
Project by Project - Los Angeles Celebrates Its Fourteenth Partner
Los Angeles, CA (March 7, 2018) – Every year, Project by Project - Los Angeles (PbP-LA) chooses a non-profit organization as a beneficiary partner to advance awareness of important social issues in the Los Angeles Asian and Pacific Islander (APA) community. After an engaging selection process with many community members, Project by Project - Los Angeles is pleased to announce its beneficiary partner for the 2018 theme of Immigration.
Organization of Chinese Americans - Asian Pacific American Advocates is dedicated to fostering the active participation of APIs in both civic and national matters through leadership opportunities and community empowerment activities. The local chapter of this organization in Greater Los Angeles (OCA-GLA) and PbP-LA are teaming up to advance the social, political, and economic well-being of APIs in the United States.
As APIs comprise 16% of the Los Angeles County population and also achieve the fastest population growth in Los Angeles County, the selection of OCA-GLA as the 2018 beneficiary partner could not be a better fit to raise awareness on immigration issues that affect the Los Angeles API community. When 11% of the undocumented population in United States is of API origin, we must work together to mobilize and defend our immigrant rights and to assist folks through the naturalization process.
This beneficiary partnership will pull together our resources to support a year-long campaign to raise funds for the “Mentored Path To Citizenship” program. In their journey to secure full protection and rights within our country, qualified participants will receive financial aid for their naturalization application, and pro-bono legal assistance from PbP-LA’s past partner, Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Los Angeles (AAAJ-LA). Together with our partner, PbP-LA will capture the stories of participants to showcase not only their struggles and challenges, but also their hopes and aspirations in their path to citizenship.
To ensure the success of the Mentored Path to Citizenship program, PbP has formed a special taskforce from the newly launched CASES Initiative, with OCA-GLA as our first client. CASES are the initials for “Collaborations Accelerating Sustainable Engagements and Solutions,” a non-profit consulting initiative leveraging the diverse and cross-functional skill-sets of our volunteers to tackle specific capacity-building projects. Through interviews, research, and analysis, the CASES teams will produce written deliverables and presentations providing tangible, actionable recommendations to inform the strategy and implementation of our year-long partnership campaign with OCA-GLA.
